OCTOBER 6 IS WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

On October 6th, 2010, students from Longfellow School will celebrate
International Walk to School Day. Oak Park will join children and adults
from all over the globe celebrating the fun and healthy tradition of walking
to school.

How you can help:
  • Help your child enjoy Walk to School Day even more by participating yourself! The principal, Oak Park police department and teachers will be on hand to greet and celebrate the walk to school with students.
  • Organize a “walking school bus” by picking up children, who know you, on the way to school. Make special arrangements to join the walking school bus, even if your child normally rides the bus. Students who are unable to walk to school can participate in a walk around the block at lunchtime.
  • Students who walk to school, or if they are not able to walk around the block at lunchtime, will receive a card stock shoe. They should color it, put their name on it, cut it out and return it to their teacher. I will hang all of them up in the gym. The students will also receive special stickers.
